An 18-seater bus belonging to the police unit of the Independent National Electoral Commission has reportedly been stolen by suspected car thieves in Abuja.

According to a security source who confirmed the incident via telephone on Tuesday, the white Toyota Hiace bus, bearing registration number FG283 U10, was stolen on Monday at the Gwarimpa Corner Shop area of the Federal Capital Territory.

The source stated that the vehicle, which is assigned to the INEC police unit, was being used by a senior police officer at the time of the incident.

He disclosed that the officer had visited a friend at 3rd Avenue, Corner Shop, Gwarimpa, when the theft occurred, according to Daily Trust.

“Actually, the senior police officer, who is a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), went to see a friend at Gwarimpa 3rd Avenue on Monday and it was raining at that time. Shortly after the rain subsided, he came out of his friend’s room and discovered the bus was not where he parked it,” the source said.

He confirmed that the officer had since reported the matter to the Gwarimpa Police Division and had also informed the FCT Police Control Room of the incident.

When contacted, the spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh, said she was not yet aware of the case but promised to make inquiries from the Gwarimpa Division and provide feedback.

As of the time of filing this report, she had not yet responded.
