The Assistant Inspector General of Police for Zone 16, Adebola Hamzat, has made it clear that the Nigeria Police Force will not protect officers involved in land grabbing or human rights abuses.

He emphasized that the police, under Inspector General Kayode Egbetokun, have a strict policy against extortion and misconduct.

Hamzat spoke to journalists in Port Harcourt on Thursday during his tour of the Rivers State Police Command.

He said, “Corruption, extortion, and human rights abuses have been brought to my attention from my discussions with stakeholders in the state. Such actions tarnish the image of the Police, and I will address these issues with officers here.”

He reassured the public that the police will take corrective actions to deal with any misconduct. “We’ve said this repeatedly, and actions are being taken. I encourage people to interact with us, to inform us of any areas where we may be falling short,” he added.

Hamzat urged citizens to report any officers who break the rules. He promised that all reports would be kept confidential, and officers found guilty would face consequences. “Land grabbing, human rights abuses, corruption, and extortion are completely unacceptable. We will not cover for any officer involved in such acts,” he said.

He also provided his personal contact number, stating, “I am not an armchair AIG; feel free to reach out.”
