A group in Osun State, known as the Coalition for Concerned Nigerians, is mobilizing residents for a peaceful protest on October 1, calling it a “National Day of Survival.”
The protest is aimed at drawing attention to the hardships faced by Nigerians under the current administration.
Speaking to reporters in Osogbo on Monday, the group’s coordinator, Adetunji Ajala, criticized President Bola Tinubu’s government for not addressing the suffering of the people. He said that despite last month’s #EndBadGovernance protest, which called for relief from economic hardships, the government has failed to listen to the concerns of the masses.
Ajala explained, “The current administration does not listen to peaceful talks about addressing the fuel price hike and the hunger that most Nigerians are facing. Instead of reducing the suffering, the government has increased the price of petroleum, which led to a rise in the cost of food, housing, and other necessities. Meanwhile, the new minimum wage is yet to be implemented in many states.”
He urged Osun State residents to join the protest, which he said is not a celebration of Independence Day but a call for survival. “For us, this is not a day to celebrate. It is a ‘National Day of Survival,'” Ajala added.
