Obidient Movement alleges plot to undermine Obi’s 2027 presidential bid

The Obidient Movement has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress of attempting to frustrate the presidential ambition of its principal, Peter Obi.

The allegation was made on Saturday in Kano by the group’s National Coordinator, Yunusa Tanko, during a press briefing.

Tanko claimed that there were deliberate efforts underway to deny Obi access to a viable political platform ahead of the January 2027 presidential election, citing what he described as “orchestrated crisis and institutional interference.”

According to him, the alleged strategy dates back to the aftermath of the 2023 general elections, accusing the APC of instigating internal conflicts within the Labour Party as a means of weakening Obi’s political structure.

He further contended that, despite a Supreme Court ruling on the party’s leadership in April 2025, actions taken by lower courts subsequently contradicted and weakened that decision.

The group stated that Obi eventually left the Labour Party on December 31, 2025, after a prolonged leadership crisis, and later pitched his tent with the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

It added that Obi’s involvement in the ADC, along with his political consultations with figures such as former Kano State governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, contributed to rising political tensions.

Tanko also connected recent developments, including the reported delisting of ADC leadership following a Court of Appeal judgment, to what the group described as coordinated attempts to weaken opposition parties.

He said, “The trend is a blatant scheme to undermine democracy, impose a one-party system and deny Nigerians credible choices.”

The movement urged key stakeholders, including electoral authorities and the judiciary, to uphold democratic standards and guarantee equal opportunities for all political contestants.

It warned that excluding opposition candidates from the electoral process could erode public trust in the country’s democratic system.

The group also called on Nigerians, especially youths and women, to stay alert and actively defend democratic ideals in the lead-up to the 2027 general elections.
