The National President of the Obidient Movement, Yunusa Tanko, has revealed that Peter Obi will make a final decision regarding full membership in the African Democratic Congress only after the upcoming Anambra governorship election scheduled for November 8.
Tanko made this known during an interview while responding to comments from the ADC’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, who had earlier called on all coalition leaders to resign from their current political parties and formally register with the ADC.
He clarified that the ADC had previously granted Obi a waiver, allowing him time to carefully assess his political options without pressure to immediately switch platforms. Tanko emphasized that Obi would not be forced into a decision until the timing was appropriate.
“The waiver still stands for us. They made the announcement but didn’t change it. If other people are joining them, it is okay. Very soon, our principal will make his position known,” he said. “We agreed it would be after the Anambra November election, which has not taken place yet. After all, people, including the media, saw us campaigning for Moghalu in Anambra. So, there is no way we could jettison it until we finish that election.”
Tanko also dismissed any notion of urgency regarding Obi’s political alignment, reiterating that no ultimatum was issued by the ADC. “As far as we are concerned, it is more logical. Besides, the ADC didn’t give any ultimatum. Obi can only make his position known after the Anambra election. But presently, he is out of the country delivering a paper,” he added.
