A one-time Senate Minority Leader and former Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Biodun Olujimi, has said that Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, lacks the political weight to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, Olujimi dismissed Obi’s influence, describing him as a politician who relies heavily on eloquence and rhetoric rather than political depth or grassroots structure.
“The rhetoric of the last election will not work again, except Obi comes with another gimmick,” she said, pointing out that Obi’s performance in 2023 was largely driven by oratory rather than substance.
She argued that grammar alone will not be enough to defeat Tinubu, whom she described as a deeply rooted political figure with years of experience and influence across Nigeria’s political landscape.
“And you see, Tinubu is a politician, a man who knows the terrain well. This is the first time we are having a dyed-in-the-wool politician as president. He knows his onions; he knows all of us. He has been in the system for very long. It’s tough.”
Olujimi noted that Tinubu’s political history, strategic alliances, and long-standing contributions to various administrations place him in a far stronger position than Obi.
“This is a man who has worked with everyone, who has been useful to everyone, who has had opportunities to assist governments. Beating him? Uphill task,” she added.
