The Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has once again distanced himself from ongoing online campaigns and business endorsements using his name and image, describing the actions as fraudulent and misleading.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Obi raised concerns over the continued misuse of his identity by individuals and groups seeking to promote commercial ventures under false pretences.
“My attention has been drawn once again to the activities of individuals and groups who persist in using my name to promote or endorse various online businesses and ventures,” he said.
“Despite earlier clarifications issued by my aides, some persons have continued to exploit my identity for personal and commercial gain.”
Obi made it clear that he has no affiliation whatsoever with any of the businesses or endorsements currently being circulated online. He stressed that he has never given authorisation for his name, image, or likeness to be used for commercial or profit-making purposes.
“Such acts are fraudulent, deceptive, and aimed solely at exploiting public trust,” he cautioned.
The former Anambra State governor urged Nigerians to exercise caution and ignore any online advertisements or claims suggesting his involvement in business transactions or investments. He assured the public that any credible updates about his activities would be disseminated exclusively through his verified platforms.
Obi also reaffirmed his commitment to transparency and integrity, encouraging the public to report any instances of impersonation or identity misuse to relevant authorities.
