Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has gracefully accepted the public apology tendered by his deputy, Comrade Philip Shaibu.
Governor Obaseki, speaking from his perspective as a person of faith, emphasized that he felt obligated to accept the apology.
In a letter titled, “Re: Public Apology By The Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu,” Governor Obaseki expressed his belief that Deputy Governor Shaibu’s apology was sincere and hoped that it would be followed by actions to enhance his conflict resolution skills.”
“He acknowledged the need for reconciliation, stating, “to err is human, to forgive is divine.”
The governor’s letter outlined the reasons for the apology, citing instances of Deputy Governor Shaibu’s behavior that did not align with the values of the people of Edo State.
This included filing baseless petitions in Nigerian courts, restraining orders against the governor, the State House of Assembly, and security agencies concerning a non-existent impeachment process, and breaches of protocol and unwarranted media attacks.
Despite the discomfort caused by these provocations, Governor Obaseki expressed his willingness to accept the apology.
He also urged Deputy Governor Shaibu to ensure that his representatives conduct themselves consistent with his newfound commitment to resolving conflicts amicably.
Governor Obaseki concluded the letter by expressing hope that the apologies and any ongoing conflicts would be put to rest.
He emphasized the importance of focusing on governance to deliver the benefits of democracy to the people of Edo State during the remaining twelve months of his administration.
Comrade Philip Shaibu had previously sought forgiveness from Governor Obaseki, acknowledging any inadvertent mistakes he may have made while carrying out his duties.
