A former gubernatorial aspirant and daughter of Olusegun Obasanjo, Iyabo Obasanjo, has congratulated Solomon Adeola on his emergence as the All Progressives Congress consensus candidate for the 2027 governorship election in Ogun State.
She also confirmed her withdrawal from the race, effectively ending her ambition for the state’s top seat.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Monday, April 13, 2026, shortly after the party adopted Adeola as its preferred candidate during a caucus meeting held in Abeokuta.
Earlier, Governor Dapo Abiodun disclosed the development at a stakeholders’ meeting on the same day.
Adeola, who currently represents Ogun West in the 10th Senate, was formally endorsed during a strategic gathering at the APC secretariat located on Abiola Way in Abeokuta.
The caucus meeting was convened by the state party chairman, Yemi Sanusi, and had in attendance prominent political figures, including former governor Olusegun Osoba, Gbenga Daniel, Ibikunle Amosun, as well as Kola Bajomo, Salisu Shuaib, Gbenga Kaka, Gbenga Obadara, among other party stakeholders.
Reacting to the outcome, Iyabo Obasanjo expressed appreciation to the APC leadership for the opportunity to participate in the selection process and urged her supporters to remain composed and resolute.
In her statement, Iyabo Obasanjo said: “I congratulate him and wish him every success. I also thank the state and national leaders of our great party for the opportunity to participate in the nomination process.
“Based on these developments, I have decided to suspend my gubernatorial aspiration.
“To my supporters across Ogun State, I am deeply grateful for your calm, steadfast support and unwavering trust throughout this journey. Together, we move forward with patience, strength and hope.”
