Mudashiru Obasa has returned as the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.

Obasa resumed the role following the resignation of the former Speaker, Mojisola Meranda.

He was impeached in February over corruption allegations. Meranda stepped down amid the leadership crisis rocking the Lagos Assembly.

Despite Obasa’s return, the crisis remains unresolved as his removal had divided the Assembly and the party’s leadership in the state.

Announcing her resignation, Meranda said she was stepping aside to protect the state assembly, adding that she is not a quitter.

“I take a bow as your Speaker,” she said.

Before her announcement, lawmakers praised her for her legislative skills, hard work, and dedication during her short time in office.

Desmond Olusola Elliot commended her leadership, saying, “You demonstrated good leadership and led the house well.”

Another lawmaker, Temitope Adewale Ifako-Ijaiye I, said, “We celebrate you for your quality service. You are a heroine of democracy. You came, you saw, you conquered. You are a victim of circumstance. This house is in tears.”
