The Oba of Benin, Ewuare II, has visited the Shehu of Borno, Abubakar Garbai Al-Amin Elkanemi, to express support for the victims of the recent flood that swept through Maiduguri.

This was revealed in a statement issued by the Oba’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Osaigbovo Iguobaro, on Monday in Benin.

During the visit, Oba Ewuare prayed for the survivors of the disaster, asking the Almighty and his ancestors to protect and comfort them in this difficult time.

The flood, which occurred on September 10 after the Alau Dam overflowed due to heavy rainfall, displaced many residents of Maiduguri, leaving over 122,751 people affected. Homes, infrastructure, and livelihoods were destroyed, and many are still in need of humanitarian aid.

Oba Ewuare expressed his deep sympathy to those who lost their homes and means of living in the disaster. He also stressed the need for action on climate change, saying, “Climate change and environmental degradation are realities that we can no longer afford to ignore.”

The Oba pledged his support to the people and government of Borno and commended the Shehu of Borno for his strength in facing the disaster. He called on governments and traditional rulers to take steps to address climate change and promote sustainable practices.

In response, the Shehu of Borno thanked Oba Ewuare for his visit and support. He also presented the Oba with copies of his books and acknowledged the efforts of rescue teams and humanitarian agencies in providing aid to the flood-affected communities.
