A 200-level Linguistics and African Languages student at Obafemi Awolowo University, Subair Enitan, has set a new record by completing a 58-hour hand wash-a-thon.

The event, initially planned for 50 hours, ended at 12:05 AM on Monday, November 27.

Enitan’s perseverance and determination were inspired by the support she received from her family, friends, and the university community.

The university management, led by Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration Professor Abayomi Daramola, paid her a solidarity visit before she concluded the challenge.

I felt like giving up several times,” Enitan admitted, “especially when I was tired and questioning my ability to complete the task. But seeing my mom and friends in the crowd cheering me on gave me the strength to keep going.”

The successful completion of the hand wash-a-thon has brought recognition to Enitan and the potential of young Nigerians to achieve remarkable feats.

The Student Union President of OAU, Abbas Akinremi, confirmed Enitan’s accomplishment, stating that she completed the challenge in the early hours of Monday and was subsequently taken to the university clinic for medical evaluation.

She ended the wash-a-thon in the early hours of Monday and we took her to the university clinic,” he said.
