The National Youth Service Corps has withdrawn corps members from Mbaa, a crisis-prone community in Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State, due to worsening security concerns.

In a statement on Thursday, the Assistant Director of Information and Public Relations for NYSC Benue, Yahuza Adamu, cited ongoing attacks by suspected armed herders as the reason for the decision.

The violence has claimed over 20 lives in recent days, including 16 farmers whose bodies were discovered in River Katsina-Ala.

Reassuring concerned families, Adamu stressed that the NYSC is working closely with security agencies to safeguard corps members.

He noted that since the attacks began, no corps member has been posted to Mbaa, and those previously stationed there have been evacuated.

A headcount conducted by the NYSC Kwande Local Government Inspector confirmed that all corps members in the area are safe and accounted for.

Adamu also clarified that Jato Acka Turan, where corps members remain stationed, is distant from the affected region and poses no immediate security threat.

The NYSC urged parents and guardians to rely on official communication channels for accurate updates regarding corps members’ safety.
