The Nigeria Women Football League has announced a total prize money of ₦24.5 million for the 2025 NWFL Premiership Super 6 tournament to encourage growth in women’s football.

This was revealed in a statement issued on Thursday by the league’s Media Director, Samuel Ahmadu.

According to the NWFL, the champions of the tournament will receive ₦10 million — the same amount given in the past two seasons.

However, this year’s second and third place teams will go home with ₦6 million and ₦4 million respectively. This shows an increase of ₦1 million each compared to last year’s edition.

In a move to support all participating teams, the bottom three clubs will also receive ₦1.5 million each. Last year, they received only ₦500,000.

The Chairperson of the NWFL, Nkechi Obi, said the new prize structure is part of the league’s efforts to make women’s football in Nigeria more professional and attractive to sponsors.

“This is a deliberate step to ensure that all clubs leave the NWFL Premiership Super 6 with something tangible,” she said.

“By increasing the financial rewards, especially for the bottom three, we’re reinforcing our commitment to professionalizing the women’s game and encouraging more investment at club level.”

Beyond the prize money, the winner of the 2025 Super 6 will represent Nigeria at the WAFU Zone B qualifiers for the CAF Women’s Champions League. If successful, the team could earn a spot at the first-ever FIFA Women’s Club World Championship.

The tournament, which will end on Saturday, May 17, still has four teams in the title race: Bayelsa Queens, defending champions Edo Queens, Nasarawa Amazons, and first-time contenders Remo Stars Ladies.
