Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has denied allegations made against him by a former Head of Service, Dr. George Nwaeke, calling them false and baseless.
Nwaeke had accused Fubara of working with militants to blow up oil pipelines in the state amid the ongoing political crisis.
However, in a statement he personally signed on Saturday, Fubara dismissed the claims as “laughable,” urging Nigerians and Rivers State residents to ignore them.
“The truth is that Dr. Nwaeke has been compromised, and whatever he is saying is only aimed at fulfilling his promise to those who may have paid or coerced him to lie against me,” the governor stated.
He added, “I call on all well-meaning Nigerians and the good people of Rivers State to disregard everything said by Dr. Nwaeke as they are mere desperate attempts to discredit me and my administration, and undermine the peace process by Mr. President.”
The governor also addressed allegations that he was secretly supporting Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed’s alleged 2027 presidential bid. He described the claim as untrue, saying Nwaeke could not have been part of such meetings as Head of Service.
“The whole world knew when the Bauchi State Governor, as Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Governors Forum, visited the State, and there was nothing secret about the visits,” Fubara explained.
He also denied any involvement in encouraging attacks on oil pipelines, stressing that he has always advocated for peace.
“It is on record that I have been at the forefront preaching peace in the State even in the face of obvious provocations,” he said.
Fubara assured the people of Rivers State that his administration remains committed to peace and development, despite attempts to discredit him.
