A 35-year-old nursing mother, Mariam Dirisu, has been arrested at the Edo State Command headquarters of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for attempting to smuggle ‘loud’, a variant of cannabis, to a suspect in cell.

This was disclosed in statement issued by NDLEA Director of Media & Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, and made available to WuzupNigeria on Sunday.

In what Babafemi described as an audacious move, the suspect devised a means to deliver the drug which was neatly wrapped in local staple food.

“Officers on duty had while searching the food brought by Mariam for her relation in custody discovered two cups of “Loud” cannabis weighing 13grams buried inside the food (akpu) meant for the suspect in custody,” he said.

In the same vein, the agency said that it raided a cannabis farm measuring 3.210691 hectares in Ayegunle forest, Akoko Edo area of the state.

After from destroying the plantation and evacuating 100 bags of harvested cannabis weighing 1,639kg, the NDLEA spokesman disclosed that a suspect, Samuel Ochonogor, was arrested in the forest in connection with the cannabis.

Commending the operatives for their resilience and tenacity, Chairman/Chief Executive of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd) urged them to continue to keep their eyes on the goal until all the drug cartels in the country are totally dismantled.
