The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission has warned Nigerians to beware of fake social media accounts impersonating its Chief Executive, Gbenga Komolafe.

In a statement on Monday, the Head of Media and Strategic Communication, Eniola Akinkuotu, said Komolafe has no official presence on any social media platform, including X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, Instagram, or TikTok.

He urged the public to avoid engaging with such pages to prevent falling victim to fraudsters.

“For the sake of clarity, the Commission Chief Executive has no social media accounts. Members of the public are therefore advised against interacting with such pages to avoid being defrauded,” the statement read.

Akinkuotu said the Commission had begun efforts to identify and prosecute those behind the impersonation accounts, describing the act as a deliberate attempt to mislead the public.

The agency also advised Nigerians to rely only on verified information from its official website, [www.nuprc.gov.ng](http://www.nuprc.gov.ng), and its authentic social media handles.

“The public is enjoined to be wary of the antics of impersonators while efforts are being made to bring fraudsters to book,” the Commission added.
