The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau has started investigating a runway incident involving a Boeing 737-400 cargo aircraft operated by Allied Air.
The incident happened on Wednesday at about 10:06 a.m. at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
The aircraft, with registration number 5N-JRT, was on flight AJK206 from Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos. It skidded off the right side of Runway 22 and ended up on the grass verge after landing.
According to NSIB’s Director of Public Affairs and Family Assistance, Mrs. Bimbo Olawumi Oladeji, there were no injuries or fatalities among the crew or ground personnel. However, the aircraft suffered significant damage.
Emergency response teams quickly arrived at the scene to ensure safety and secure the site.
NSIB has launched an investigation to identify the causes of the incident. A team has been sent to the site to assess the situation, recover data, and gather information from those involved. Further updates will follow as the investigation progresses.
