NSIB probes United Nigeria Airlines plane incident

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau has launched an investigation into an incident involving a United Nigeria Airlines plane that overshot the runway at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on Friday night.

According to NSIB spokesperson, Mr. Tunji Oketunbi, the aircraft, an Embraer ERJ145 with registration number 5N-BWY, was carrying 51 passengers and four crew members when it landed at the airport.

The plane skidded off the runway after landing, but there were no injuries reported.

The NSIB said it was notified of the incident on Saturday and has already begun its investigation.

The bureau is asking for any information from the public that could help with the investigation, such as photos, videos, or recordings.

The NSIB, with this, solicits information from the general public in the form of pictures, video or recording pieces of evidence to assist in conducting a comprehensive investigation.

The NSIB is a multimodal investigation agency that is responsible for investigating transportation accidents and serious incidents in Nigeria.

In a statement, the NSIB said it would release a preliminary report on the incident soon.

The overshooting of the runway is the latest in a series of incidents involving Nigerian airlines.

The NSIB has warned airlines to improve their safety standards. The bureau has also said that it will be taking a tougher stance on airlines that violate safety regulations.
