The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has warned about growing threats of asymmetric warfare and criminal activities damaging Nigeria’s economy.

Audi raised the alarm on Wednesday during his visit to the Abia State headquarters of the NSCDC in Umuahia. He said crimes like illegal oil bunkering and vandalism of national assets could hurt Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product if not addressed.

He said, “We are seeing an increase in economic sabotage, and if we don’t check these crimes, it will badly affect our economy.”

Audi said his tour of the South East was to check how well officers were performing and to strengthen their operations.

He promised to keep supporting officers with capacity building, prompt payment of salaries, and better insurance cover.

During his visit, Audi commissioned an office complex built by the State Commandant of NSCDC Abia, CC Akinsola Aderemi. He praised the commandant for the effort and encouraged him to do more.

The NSCDC boss also visited the Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, as part of his official activities in the state.
