The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has urged personnel of the corps in Abia State to intensify their efforts in protecting the nation’s critical infrastructure.
During an official visit to the Abia State Command as part of his tour of the Southeast, Prof. Audi expressed concern over the growing threats posed by asymmetric warfare and crimes such as illegal oil bunkering and the vandalism of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure.
He warned that continued economic sabotage could have dire consequences on the country’s economy, including its Gross Domestic Product.
Reaffirming the core mandate of the NSCDC, Prof. Audi noted that the corps is stepping up operations to counter these threats and improve security effectiveness nationwide.
“The tour is not just ceremonial. It is part of a broader strategy to assess field performance, strengthen security operations, and ensure improved outcomes in Abia and the Southeast,” he said.
Addressing personnel welfare, the Commandant General restated his dedication to building capacity, ensuring timely payment of entitlements, and enhancing insurance schemes to motivate officers and improve performance.
As part of his visit, Prof. Audi also commissioned a newly constructed office complex at the state command headquarters. The building was completed under the leadership of the Abia State Commandant, Akinsola Aderemi. Commending the initiative, he encouraged the commandant to sustain the progress.
He extended his appreciation to the Abia State Government for its ongoing support of the corps and called for deeper cooperation to strengthen security within the state.
The Commandant General further emphasized that the NSCDC remains aligned with President Bola Tinubu’s national security agenda and reaffirmed the corps’ commitment to protecting lives, property, and the future of the country.
