The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Osun State has initiated an investigation to apprehend those responsible for the murder of a night guard at a shopping complex along Station Road, Ikirun.

The victim, identified only as Ibariba, was discovered dead on Monday morning.

Although, the exact time of the killing remains unclear, sources at Station Road, where the shopping complex is located, reported that the body of the night guard was found early in the morning.

Local residents, however, were reluctant to speak on the record, fearing possible links to the crime.

A nearby shop owner, who requested anonymity, described the scene saying : “We found the body in a pool of blood when we arrived this morning. I don’t know the night guard’s name, but we were told he was an Ibariba man. Judging by the condition of the body, it appears he was slaughtered. We immediately notified the police and the NSCDC, who both sent officers to the scene.”

The spokesperson for the NSCDC Osun State Command, Kehinde Adeleke, confirmed the incident, stating that operatives had already visited the crime scene.

“We received a report that a middle-aged man known as Ibariba was slaughtered by unknown assailants in the early hours of Monday while on duty as a night guard at a shopping complex on Station Road, Ikirun,” Adeleke said.

“The remains of the deceased have been evacuated and deposited in a morgue by officers from the Ikirun Police Divisional Headquarters.

“Meanwhile, an investigation has commenced to unravel the cause of death and to apprehend the perpetrators.”

The NSCDC assured the public that it is working diligently to bring those responsible for the crime to justice.
