The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has deployed over 28,000 officers across the country to ensure safety and peace during the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.
The Commandant General of the Corps, Dr Ahmed Audi, gave the order for the nationwide deployment. Officers from different special units such as the Intelligence Directorate, Special Female Squad, Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad, Mining Marshals, Quick Response Tactical Team, Counter Terrorism Unit, Operations Department, and SWAT have been mobilised.
The NSCDC spokesperson, Afolabi Babawale, released a statement on Wednesday confirming the deployment.
According to the statement, the officers will protect key national assets, prevent crime, and ensure the safety of lives and property during the holiday.
Dr Audi warned that criminals may try to take advantage of the festive period, and security agencies must remain alert to stop any planned attacks or unlawful activities.
While speaking during a meeting with senior officers, state commandants, and heads of departments, the NSCDC boss stressed the need for better intelligence gathering.
“No single agency can fight insecurity alone,” he said, urging cooperation between all security agencies and local communities.
He also encouraged the 36 state commandants and the FCT Command to work closely with other security bodies and members of the public.
According to him, joint efforts are necessary to tackle major security problems such as terrorism, kidnapping, vandalism, and clashes between farmers and herders.
“We also call on members of the public to support this course of action so that together we can attain the goal of effective security coverage across board,” Audi said.
He also advised private security companies to share any useful information they have and to help strengthen intelligence networks, especially during emergencies.
