Personnel from the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps and the Nigerian Correctional Service have raised concerns about delays in implementing salary and promotion arrears for newly ranked officers.

They have expressed their frustration to the Ministry of Interior and the Nigerian government.

In an interview with Daily Sun on Monday, staff members, who asked to remain anonymous, highlighted what they see as unfair treatment and inconsistencies in how promotions and salary payments are handled across different paramilitary services.

This includes the Nigerian Immigration Service, Fire Service, NSCDC, and Correctional Services.

One officer said, “It is shocking that some officers were promoted in December 2023 without proper placement or the payment of promotion arrears. Almost ten months later, there has been no action from the authorities of the Nigerian Correctional Service or NSCDC to rectify this issue.”

The officer pointed out that, unlike the Immigration Service and Fire Service, which have processed promotions and salary payments on time since March 2023, the Correctional Service and NSCDC have been slow. He added, “The Immigration Service and Fire Service have managed to process promotions and salary payments efficiently, while we are left waiting.”

The officer is calling for immediate intervention from the Minister of Interior to address what he describes as social injustice and inequality. He said, “This is unfairness towards NSCDC and Correctional Service officers. We urge a thorough investigation into the implementation of promotion and salary arrears.”

He also suggested that the Controller General of the Nigerian Correctional Services, the Commandant General of NSCDC, and the Integrated Personnel Payroll and Information System should be held accountable for the payment discrepancies.
