NSCDC arrests three for illegal mining, armored cable theft in Ondo

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Ondo State has apprehended three individuals in connection with alleged illegal mining and armored cable theft.

The NSCDC Public Relations Officer in Ondo State, DSC Daniel Aidamenbor, announced the arrests in a statement released on Wednesday in Akure.

According to Aidamenbor, two of the suspects, Modashiru Nasiru, 18, and Hassan Yaya, 19, were arrested on August 13 for engaging in unlicensed mining activities in the Oke-Igbo and Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo areas of the state.

In addition to the illegal mining arrests, another suspect, Aloa Segun, 40, was taken into custody for allegedly stealing armored cables. During the investigation, NSCDC operatives recovered armored cables, recline cables, and a generator from the suspect, with the total value of the stolen items estimated at N3.3 million.

Aidamenbor confirmed that the suspects would face prosecution once the ongoing investigations are completed.
