The Bauchi State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has arrested three individuals over alleged involvement in cable vandalism, shop burglary, and theft across different parts of the state.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday by the Command’s spokesperson, Saminu Yusuf.
He revealed that two suspects were apprehended on September 29, 2025, after residents along the Fonde-Haire axis of Toro Local Government Area provided credible intelligence.
Yusuf identified the suspects as Muhammadu Sani, 38, and Muhammed Auwal, 34, both residents of the local community.
He said the duo were caught in the act of vandalising communication cables and were found with tools including a digger, shovel, and saw machine, all recovered from the scene.
In a separate operation, the spokesperson reported the arrest of one Musa Ibrahim, 22, on September 27, 2025, at Muda Lawan Market in Bauchi.
“One Musa Ibrahim (22) was arrested on September 27, 2025, at Muda Lawan Market in Bauchi for theft, shop burglary, and vandalising air conditioners, from which he carted away valuable items,” Yusuf stated.
He added that all suspects had confessed to the crimes and had been charged to court for prosecution.
Commenting on the arrests, State Commandant Oloyede Nelson decried the increasing rate of vandalism, warning that it posed a serious threat to public infrastructure and economic stability. He stressed that the destruction of communication and power infrastructure could severely disrupt essential services and hinder socio-economic growth.
“The Corps remains resolute in ensuring that acts of vandalism are eliminated. Anyone caught sabotaging public property will be prosecuted accordingly,” Nelson warned.
He reaffirmed the NSCDC’s commitment to intensifying surveillance and enforcement to protect national assets from sabotage.
