NRC suspends Abuja-Kaduna train service after bandits attack

The Nigerian Railway Corporation has indefinitely suspended train services along the Abuja-Kaduna rail line on Thursday after passengers escaped a double attack by bandits.

WuzupNigeria reported that the first attack happened on Wednesday night when the assailants planted explosives on the tracks between the between Dutse and Rijana Stations.

According to Senator Shehu Sani, the bandits opened fire on the driver after the train refused to stop but he managed to evade the assailants and drove the train 7 kilometers away.

Sani who witnessed the second attack on Thursday after a train which he boarded ran over another explosive had advised the authorities to suspend its services to resolve the issue.

The Cable reports that the NRC announced the suspension via a message to passengers on its booking website.

The NRC added that it is working to restore services, adding that the public will be alerted when the train is up and running, although there was no specific time or date attached to the message.

It read, “Due to unforeseen circumstances, train services have been immediately suspended for the safety of our dear passengers,” information on the website read.

“Efforts are in place to restore service. Further information would follow immediately, the service is restored.”
