NPFL: Heartland FC slash players salary over poor performance

Published

Heartland has taken the decision to reduce their players’ salaries by half until further notice following the club’s humiliating 5-1 defeat to Plateau United on Wednesday at the Awka City Stadium.

The Naze Millionaires, former champions of the Nigeria Premier Football League, find themselves at the bottom of the NPFL table and are facing a significant challenge in retaining their top-flight status.

The General Manager of Heartland, Promise Nwachukwu, indicated that further sanctions might be imposed on the players if they fail to enhance their performance.

Nwachukwu conveyed to the club’s media: “The club management has decided to slash the salaries of the players by half as from now henceforth until the team’s performance improves. I was just deeply rooted to one spot after the game yesterday and was the last to leave the stadium because I could not have envisaged the poor performance the players exhibited against Plateau United. They played as if nothing was at stake and as If they were bereft of ideas.”

Heartland is scheduled to host Sunshine Stars in their next NPFL game on Sunday.
