NOT TOO YOUNG TO RUN! Fela Durotoye addresses supporters, critics over presidential ambition

Published

The 46-year-old who recently declared his ambition publicly has come under heavy criticisms as well as praise for his political ambition.

Presidential aspirant and CEO of GEMSTONE Group, Fela Durotoye, has responded to queries from supporters and critics questioning his motive to run for presidency for the 2019 elections.

The 46-year-old who recently declared his ambition publicly has come under heavy criticisms as well as praise for his political ambition.

The announcement had generated a lot of heated arguments online. Some said that they’d vote for him, while some complained that he lacked the required experience.

Durotoye in a series of post on his Instagram page said he was not disturbed or bothered about the barrage of questions or insults coming his way rather they are inevitable hurdles he has to overcome.

The mentor and motivational speaker painstakingly itemised the problems facing the country and proffered his own solution to them.

He went further to give a detailed analysis on why he could not turn a blind eye to the insecurities facing his fatherland.

In what can be described partly as a manifesto he said,

“YESSS!!!! This is the energy I have been wanting to see. These are the conversations I have hoped YESSS!!!! This is the energy i have been wanting to see. .

These are the conversations I have hoped that young Nigerians will have.
The understanding that it is not enough to just be ‘young’ to #DeliverTheFuture. We must be YOUNG & STRONG … and what we may lack in political experience must be compensated by evidence of demonstrated leadership capacity. .

I have gotten so much feedback over the last few days accross multiple platforms and I hear the people demand more out of leadership regardless of who they are…

The people do not only want to know Who, but WHAT will be done and HOW. So … YES!!! … Keep holding leadership or aspiring leadership to these standards and let the answers they (we) give guide your choice! That’s how we will birth the New Nigeria.

I’m so grateful for all the feedback offline & the comments online … pleasant, unpleasant and sometimes downright nasty … I am grateful for all.Like the political analysts often say … NO COMMENT is the worst comment in political space. Why? because it lacks energy. You see …positive comments carry positive energy and can be directed into action (campaigning/volunteering/donations & ultimately voting).Interestingly, negative comments also carry energy but you only need to find ways to get to the essence and redirect the energy for positive action. No comment carries no energy and therefore cannot be directed or redirected.

So THANK YOU, everyone, for LIKEing, REPOSTing, RETWEETing and COMMENTing. Thank you for sharing your thoughts, concerns and excitement with me. Your opinions are important to me and those tough questions are helping me learn faster and ultimately preparing me to be a better aspirant…

Over the last few days, I have been overwhelmed by the support that followed my decision to join the Alliance for New Nigeria (ANN). While I am honored by the goodwill of many who feel the time has come for candidates with no ties to the past to lead us into a New Nigeria, I am also grateful to those who doubt the ability of 1 man to make a difference.
But this is not about FD becoming President.
It’s about triggering a landslide of good people into govt. at all levels who will take the best decisions for everyone.

This is why I’m RUNNING FOR A NEW NIGERIA

Perhaps I would be better served, building my business, raising my family, enjoying the comfort & security my gated community offers while turning a blind eye to the pain I see in the eyes of Nigerians everywhere.
But I can’t pretend I don’t see.
For the last 14 years, I have built people & funded many nation building projects at great personal cost.
As I have said, ordinary citizens of a GREAT nation will always be treated better than the great citizens of an ORDINARY nation.

This is what drives me.
To build a nation where we are GREAT CITIZENS of a GREAT NATION walking with pride even as people of African descent were proud to be black as seen in the Marvel phenomenon, Black Panther.
How we felt about Wakanda is how we can one day feel about Nigeria.
That’s what a desirable nation looks like.
That’s the vision of Nigeria I’ve been sharing for the last 14 years.

I’m not pursuing any ambition, I’m representing a generation.
Representing you.
But I can’t do it alone.
I need you.
To run with me, by voting or being voted for.
Being young or having experience is not enough to deliver on the opportunities of the 21st century.
All I ask is as you inspect my record & see how I have served my nation without political office, do the same for EVERY CANDIDATE & see what they have done BEFORE & AFTER they held political office.
At the end of the day, I may not earn your vote, but our nation must have the best & brightest persons to emerge as true leaders who would deliver a New Nigeria which may even one day surpass the fictional country of Wakanda.
Is that not a noble cause?
