The Northern Senator’s Forum has strongly denounced the recent wave of mass killings in Plateau State, branding the acts as “brutal,” “devoid of reason,” and a stain on shared humanity.
The attacks by bandits in 23 villages across Bokkos and Barkin Ladi local government areas claimed the lives of at least 145 people and left hundreds injured, with widespread property destruction reported from Saturday night to the early hours of Monday.
In a statement issued by Senator Suleiman Kawu Sumaila, the spokesperson for the Northern senators, a call for a comprehensive investigation into the attacks and the apprehension of the perpetrators to face the full force of the law was emphasized.
The senators expressed their condolences to the affected families, Plateau State, and the nation at large, recognizing the collective grief caused by such a tragedy.
The statement reads: “This brutal act is indefensible, devoid of reason, and stains our shared humanity. We unequivocally condemn such heinous acts and express our deepest condolences to the affected families, loved ones, the people, and the Government of Plateau State. Their immense loss is a collective grief, and we stand united in our determination to seek justice.”
The Northern senators, in the statement, urged authorities to swiftly initiate a comprehensive investigation, allocate necessary resources for the identification and apprehension of the perpetrators, and ensure justice prevails.
The senators also called on the federal government to consolidate investigation reports on similar cases and take necessary actions to prevent future occurrences.
Emphasizing the importance of unity during such trying times, the statement urged citizens to draw on shared values of compassion, empathy, and respect, fostering resilience to overcome this dark chapter in the nation’s history.
