The Northern Nigeria Youth Leaders Forum has criticised alleged moves by some political actors to organise a protest in Abuja demanding the release of Biafran separatist leader, Nnamdi Kanu, labelling it a “desperate move” by individuals disconnected from the true concerns of Nigerian youths.

Speaking during a press briefing in Abuja on Tuesday, the forum’s president, Comrade Murtala Mohammed Gamji, urged that the judicial process be allowed to run its course in Kanu’s case.

Addressing the issue, Gamji stated: “As far as it stands now, he is guilty until proven otherwise.”

He announced that the forum would mobilise young people from across Northern Nigeria for a three-day solidarity march in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, scheduled to hold from October 21 to 23.

“This is a message of hope for all Nigerian youths, whether they support the president or not. Because of the student loan initiative President Tinubu has introduced, we are coming to celebrate with him,” Gamji said.

He also disclosed that various paramilitary youth organisations, including the Peace Corps, Man O’ War, Boys Brigade, and the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), would participate in the march. According to him, the initiative is aimed at promoting national unity beyond religious or ethnic lines.
