The Northern Elders Forum, has stepped forward to clarify a widely circulated statement attributed to the forum expressing regret over voting for President Bola Tinubu.

Speaking through its Deputy Director General II, Salisu Mohammed, NEF firmly distanced itself from the purported statement, emphasizing that it did not originate from the forum. Mohammed stated, “the attention of NEF has been drawn to a statement credited to the Forum by media – that the North regrets voting for President Bola Tinubu. NEF wishes to distance itself from the statement as it did not emanate from the Forum as it is the opinion of the person in his personal capacity and not that of NEF.”

The NEF stressed that it has not yet evaluated the performance of the current administration, including that of President Tinubu, as it is still early. Mohammed added, “Thus, the statement credited to NEF does not reflect the position of the Forum as it has never sat and assessed performance or non-performance of Tinubu administration.”

Furthermore, the forum clarified that it has not engaged in discussions regarding the politics of 2027 or deliberated on whom to support or oppose on such matters.

NEF considers it premature to delve into such issues while focusing on advocating for the betterment of the northern region and Nigeria as a whole.

NEF urged leaders to verify information before making public statements, emphasizing the importance of addressing issues within their specific contexts.

The forum reiterated its commitment to demanding good governance and the delivery of democratic dividends for all Nigerians.
