The Nigerian film industry is in mourning following the death of Yoruba actor Yusuf Olorungbebe on Wednesday, August 28.
Reports say Olorungbebe had been struggling with a chronic illness before he passed away.
Confirming the sad news, actress Foluke Daramola wrote on Instagram, “WE LOST YUSUF OLORUNGBEBE. We submit to God’s Will. Thank You Everyone!”
Before his death, Foluke Daramola had shared a video of Olorungbebe on his hospital bed, revealing that he was on life support.
She appealed to Nigerians for financial help to save his life, stating that no amount was too small. Daramola also provided his account number for donations.
However, her efforts were in vain as the actor succumbed to his illness.
Daramola has been a vocal advocate for ailing veterans in Nollywood. Earlier this year, she had called for support for veteran actress Obiqgheli Molobe, who was suffering from a partial stroke, diabetes, and high blood pressure.
In December of last year, following the death of veteran actor Dejumo Lewis, Daramola wrote an open letter to President Tinubu and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, urging them to improve conditions for Nollywood veterans and establish a trust fund to support them.
