Nollywood mourns as Actor Big Larry passes away

The Nollywood industry is in mourning following the sudden death of popular actor Big Larry.

This sad news comes just after the recent loss of actress Sharon Okpamen, who passed away due to childbirth complications, leaving the industry heartbroken over the loss of two talented stars in such a short time.

Movie producer Stanley Ontop shared the news on Instagram, leaving fans in shock. In his post, he wrote, “Breaking news: Nollywood actor Big Larry has just passed away. What caused his demise is yet to be known. May your soul rest in peace, Big Larry❤️😭. Nollywood, Asaba mourns❤️😭.” The exact cause of Big Larry’s death remains unclear, and fans are left waiting for more information.

Big Larry’s passing adds to a growing list of Nollywood actors who have passed away in 2024, marking a difficult year for the Nigerian film industry. Earlier this year, Deji Aderemi (known as Baba Olofa Ina) died on January 4, 2024, at the age of 73 after battling an undisclosed illness. He was known for his roles as a traditional chief and Ifa priest in Yoruba films.

On February 5, 2024, veteran actor Jimi Solanke passed away at the age of 81 after a brief illness. He was celebrated for his work in children’s television and movies like “Tales by Moonlight.” Two days later, on February 7, 2024, Ethel Aderemi-Ekpe, recognized for her role in the sitcom “Basi and Company,” died after a battle with cancer.

Also, the death of comic actor Tolani Quadri Oyebamiji, popularly known as Sisi Quadri, who passed away on March 1, 2024, at the age of 44.

John Okafor, famously known as Mr. Ibu, died on March 2, 2024, at age 62 after a long battle with diabetes and related health issues. He was well-loved for his comedic roles.

Amaechi Muonagor, another respected actor, died on March 24, 2024, at the age of 61 after struggling with kidney disease. On April 6, 2024, Adejumoke Aderounmu passed away at age 40 after battling an undisclosed illness. She was famous for her role in “Jenifa’s Diaries.”

The list of losses continued with Pope Odonwodo, also known as Junior Pope, who died on April 10, 2024, in a tragic boat accident while filming. He was well-known in the Eastern Nollywood scene.
