Confusion as Junior Pope reportedly drowns, AGN deletes post
Nigerians have been thrown into a state of confusion as Nollywood actor, Junior Pope, reportedly drowns while shooting a movie on Wednesday.
The actor and three was said to have crowned alongside three others after their boat reportedly capsized in Delta State.
39-year-old Pope was not only a prominent figure in Nollywood but also a familiar face in skit-making, captivating audiences with his videos.
News went viral on social media alongside a video showing him seemingly lifeless as he was brought out of the body of water and this was followed by a post from filmmaker Sam Olatunji who posted that the actor died.
Olatunji’s post read, “Four actors including Jnr Pope fell into Anam River on their way to the location and their bodies have been recovered. What a sad day for Nollywood. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family,” expressed Sam.
However, moments later, a video surfaced online suggesting that the actor has been resuscitated as rescuers could be seen attending to the actor was now held in a seated position.
The Actors Guild Of Nigeria subsequently posted on its official Instagram page that Junior Pope is alive and receiving treatment in a hospital in Asaba, Delta.
Minutes late, the AGN deleted the post claiming that the actor was alive and receiving treatment.
As of the time of this report, the AGN president, Emeka Rollas, did not pick several calls from our correspondent.
