Popular Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo has died at the age of 40 after battling an unconfirmed illness, sparking reactions on social media.
Amid speculations, Ekubo’s colleagues Funke Akindele, Godwin Nnadiekwe and Bolanale Ninalowo confirmed the development on Tuesday on their respective Instagram pages.
“I’m struggling to find the words. This news has truly broken me. Nollywood has lost a rare soul, and I’m lost for words because this wasn’t the plan, Alex Ekubo,” fellow actor Godwin Nnadiekwe posted.
Shortly after, actress Funke Akindele expressed heartbreak over Ekubo’s passing on her Instagram story. Akindele wrote, “Hmmmmmm. Rest in peace, Alex. I tried to reach out to see you one more time, but guess you knew best. May your kind soul rest in peace, Alex. ‘Ore mi like you fondly called me, I will always remember and cherish the good times we shared together. Rest in Peace, Alex.”
The posts quickly went viral, triggering panic and confusion among fans and members of the entertainment industry, with many flooding social media platforms to express shock and condolences.
Further confirmation was given by fellow actor, Ninalowo, who said, “Rest on, Alex. May God heal your family and us all.”
However, there has been no official confirmation from Alex Ekubo’s family, management, or verified representatives regarding the claims surrounding his alleged death.
