Nollywood actor, Afeez Owo, has publicly acknowledged that his marriage to fellow actress Mide Martins nearly ended in 2014, confirming long-standing rumours of a split that had previously been denied by the couple.
Speaking during an appearance on the YouTube podcast Behind The List, Afeez disclosed that the couple experienced a major disagreement that year, which almost led to the breakdown of their union. At the time, reports had circulated online suggesting that the two had separated, though both parties had dismissed the claims.
Reflecting on the events, Afeez admitted that the situation was mishandled on his part and that the involvement of social media worsened the already tense circumstances.
“There was a time rumours spread that my wife and I had separated. In truth, that was the first and only serious fight we’ve ever had in our marriage. Thankfully, we reconciled and came back together. I admit I didn’t handle it well,” he said.
The actor went on to describe the emotional toll of the conflict and how both he and Mide reacted in ways that attracted public attention.
“I scattered things, and at some point, I even thought, Is this how it’s going to end? Social media made it worse because it was something we should have resolved privately. Out of anger, I left and stayed in a hotel for two days, while she went online saying I had abandoned her and the kids. But by God’s grace, we overcame it,” he added.
The couple has since moved past the incident, continuing their relationship and careers as one of Nollywood’s most recognisable pairs.
