The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Ajibola Bashiru, has dismissed concerns suggesting that the ruling party is working to establish a one-party state in Nigeria, insisting that such claims are unfounded attempts to mislead the public.
Bashiru made the remarks during the APC Stakeholders Forum held in Lagos, where the state chapter of the party officially endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term in office.
While speaking at the event, Bashiru outlined the party’s ambition to secure full legislative dominance, stating that the APC aims to bring all members of the National Assembly under its fold.
“Some people are trying to gaslight our party, saying that we are moving towards a one-party state in Nigeria, and at the same time, they said they want to chase our leader out of Aso Rock Villa. This is mutually contradictory,” he said.
He urged party faithful not to be swayed by such criticisms, encouraging them instead to remain focused on expanding the APC’s influence across all levels of government.
“We should not allow anybody to gaslight us. Let it be that all the seats in the Senate are members of the APC; 360 should be APC; all the State Houses of Assembly should be APC. It’s part of democracy,” he added.
Bashiru emphasized the importance of continued political engagement and grassroots mobilization to ensure the APC remains the dominant force in Nigerian politics.
“We must continue to mobilize, conscientize, sensitize, and ensure that the APC is the bulwark for electoral victory in all elections,” he said.
