The Federal Government of Nigeria has confirmed that no Nigerian life has been lost in Lebanon, despite the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah.
The government also announced preparations to evacuate Nigerians currently in Lebanon to ensure their safety.
In a statement released on Saturday by the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Eche Abu-Obe, the government highlighted the active role of the Nigerian Embassy in Lebanon in protecting its citizens.
“The Federal Government has begun preparations to evacuate its citizens from Lebanon,” the statement read. “It is pertinent to mention that no Nigerian life has been lost since the beginning of the conflict.”
The government assured Nigerians that it is monitoring the situation closely and is committed to the safety of its nationals in the region. Nigerian citizens in southern Lebanon, one of the most dangerous areas affected by the conflict, have already been moved to safer regions like Beirut, with the help of community leaders.
The Ministry also advised Nigerians living in Lebanon to take precautionary measures and assured them of continued government support during these challenging times. “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to reassure Nigerians that the Federal Government is engaging with relevant stakeholders and remains committed to the protection and safety of Nigerian nationals,” the statement added.
The evacuation process is set to commence soon as the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah intensifies. The government had previously advised Nigerians to leave Lebanon voluntarily when commercial flights were still available, but now an official evacuation plan is in place
