The APC Grassroots Governance Group (APC G3) has firmly denied reports suggesting that support groups from the All Progressives Congress have defected to back former Vice President Atiku Abubakar ahead of the 2027 elections.
The group’s response follows a statement from Atiku Abubakar’s media office, which claimed that some APC-affiliated support groups, led by Ismaila Abu Ishaq—a former member of the APC Presidential Campaign Council—had collapsed their structures in support of Atiku and rebranded under the banner “Coalition for Project Rescue Nigeria 2027.”
In a statement issued Thursday, APC G3 described the report as misleading and maintained that no authentic APC support group would associate with a politician they accuse of political inconsistency.
According to the group’s national coordinator, Hon. Amechi Chuks Oyema, “All APC Support Groups with our teeming members running into millions are solidly behind President Tinubu. We know the difficult situations he met in office.”
He continued, “We are also in support of one Nigeria with rotation as a guiding principle. Atiku Abubakar has never respected the principles that guide one Nigeria, so no sound politician who believes in one Nigeria will queue behind him.”
The group criticized Atiku’s political history, accusing him of prioritizing regional dominance over national unity.
“Atiku believes in supremacy of one region over others. That is why he fought Obasanjo, Jonathan and now Tinubu. He had all the opportunities in 2015 to support GEJ and later become President, but his idea of regional superiority did not allow him to calculate well,” the statement added.
Commenting on President Tinubu’s performance, APC G3 said, “President Tinubu has tried. The bold decisions he has taken is making Atiku and his coalition members to be afraid. They fear that fundamental changes being made will not satisfy their personal interest.”
The group urged Nigerians to be vigilant and dismiss what they termed as political distractions, reaffirming unwavering support for the president.
“Nigerians must beware of them. Genuine APC Support Groups are with Tinubu. We will continue to pray and support him to make Nigeria better for all of us,” APC G3 added.
