Queen Elizabeth’s husband, Prince Philip, was involved in a car crash while driving close to the Sandringham Estate on Thursday.
Buckingham Palace says 97-year-old Duke of Edinburgh was not injured in the collision.
Pictures from the scene show the 97-year-old’s Range Rover overturned on the side of the road and the heavily damaged vehicle close to a recovery truck.
A palace spokesperson said: “The Duke of Edinburgh was involved in a road traffic accident with another vehicle on Thursday afternoon.
“The Duke was not injured. The accident took place close to the Sandringham Estate. Local police attended the scene.”
Philip retired from his royal duties on 2 August 2017, at the age of 96, after having completed 22,219 solo engagements since 1952.
He is the longest-serving consort of a reigning British monarch and the oldest ever male member of the British royal family.
A keen sports enthusiast, Philip helped develop the equestrian event of carriage driving. He is a patron, president or member of over 780 organisations and serves as chairman of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award for people aged 14 to 24.
