A fire broke out early Friday morning, destroying a seven-storey building filled with shops on Sanni Adewale Street in Lagos Island Local Government Area, Lagos State. Thankfully, no casualties have been reported so far.
The fire started around 5:17 a.m., causing widespread panic as residents in the area rushed to safety.
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service quickly responded, working hard to put out the flames. The fire has already caused significant damage, with items worth millions of naira lost.
The Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, said that firefighters from the Ebute Elefun, Sari, and Lekki 1 stations were sent to the scene immediately after receiving the distress call. They arrived at the building by 5:33 a.m.
Adeseye provided an update around 7 a.m., stating, “Thanks to the swift actions of the Lagos State Firefighters, the situation is now under control. Ventilation efforts are currently underway to ensure the safety of all in the area.”
She also mentioned that a preliminary investigation suggests the fire was caused by an electrical surge. “Fortunately, no casualties have been reported,” Adeseye added.
The fire is still under investigation, and authorities are urging residents to stay clear of the area as they continue their work.
