The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited has restored full operations on the Escravos–Lagos Pipeline System, weeks after an explosion disrupted gas supply in parts of the country.

The company said the pipeline, which was affected by an explosion on December 10, 2025, has been repaired, tested and safely put back into service, ending supply interruptions to gas-dependent power plants and industries.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by the Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPC Limited, Andy Odeh.

“NNPC Limited is pleased to announce the successful restoration of the Escravos–Lagos Pipeline System in Warri, Delta State,” the statement said.

It added, “Following the unexpected explosion on December 10, 2025, we immediately activated our emergency response, deployed coordinated containment measures, and worked tirelessly with multidisciplinary teams to ensure the damaged section was repaired, pressure-tested, and safely recommissioned.”

NNPC confirmed that the pipeline is now fully operational, describing the swift repair as a boost to Nigeria’s energy security.

“Today, the pipeline is fully operational, reaffirming our resilience and commitment to energy security,” the company stated.

The Escravos–Lagos Pipeline System is one of Nigeria’s most important gas pipelines, transporting natural gas from the Niger Delta to Lagos and other parts of the South-West. It supplies several power generation companies, factories and major industrial hubs.

Disruptions to the pipeline had led to reduced electricity generation in recent weeks, forcing some power plants to operate below capacity, while gas-dependent industries switched to costlier alternatives such as diesel.

NNPC said the quick restoration was made possible through cooperation with host communities, regulators and security agencies.

“This achievement was made possible through the unwavering support of our host communities, the guidance of regulators, the vigilance of security agencies, and the dedication of our partners and staff,” the statement read.

It added, “Together, we turned a challenging moment into a success story, restoring operations in record time while upholding the highest standards of safety and environmental stewardship.”

Pipeline vandalism, explosions and operational failures have continued to affect Nigeria’s oil and gas infrastructure, often leading to revenue losses, environmental damage and prolonged supply disruptions.

NNPC said it remains committed to protecting critical energy assets and host communities, stressing that safety and environmental protection remain top priorities.

“As we move forward, NNPC Limited remains steadfast in its pledge to protect our environment, safeguard our communities, and maintain the integrity and reliability of our assets,” the company concluded.
