The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation on Wednesday tendered a public apology to Nigerians over the importation of Premium Motor Spirit that led to a nationwide fuel scarcity.
WuzupNigeria reported that as a result of the week-long crisis, Nigerians have been forced to patronise black market dealers who are selling fuel as low as N500 per litre, about three times the initial price of N165 per litre.
According to The Nation, Group Managing Director of the NNPC Limited, Mele Kyari, apologised during his appearance before the House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Resources Downstream investigating the importation of adulterated fuel.
Kyari disclosed that the NNPC was unaware of the presence of methanol in the fuel imported and the loading terminal the substandard fuel came through has a long history of supplying gasoline to the country, West Africa and many countries in Europe.
Kyari however urged Nigerians to avoid panic buying, assuring that the NNPC Limited do its best to normalise the situation.
More to come…
