Nnamdi Kanu’s trial: DSS bars ex-Anambra Gov Ezeife, journalists, monarchs from court

Published

Again, the Department of State Services, on Wednesday deny journalists, former governor of Anambra, Chukwuemeka Ezeife and some Igbo traditional rulers from gaining access to the court room at the resumed trial of detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu.

While reporters were prevented from covering the court proceedings, some lawyers and legal icons were equally barred from gaining entry into the court room.

Journalists who allegedly arrived early to beat the security iron wall, found security agents patiently waiting for them at the entrance.

A former governor of Anambra, Chukwuemeka Ezeife and some Igbo monarch who arrived as early as 7am were ordered to ‘vamoose’ by the stern-looking operatives who claimed that they were working on instruction.

WuzupNigeria reported that Kanu, who was re-arraigned before Justice Binta Nyako of the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court, is facing a seven-count amended treasonable felony charge the Federal Government preferred against him.

The embattled IPOB leader’s lawyer met him at the DSS headquarters on Monday to preview what they called the frivolous 7-Count Amended fharge filed by the Federal Government of Nigeria.

According to Ifeanyi Ejiofor, his lead counsel, “Processes have been exchanged by the parties, ostensibly clearing every doubt as to whether the application will be heard or not on this 10th Day of November 2021.

“Our Client – Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu was fully and comprehensively briefed on all the legal strategies to be adopted in demystifying the smokescreen charge and other compelling legal methodology that will hasten his unconditional release from custody.

“Onyendu was very much delighted and in his usual practice, he participated actively in the legal discourse and pertinently made his well informed inputs to our contributions.

“Our Client – Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu noted with displeasure and rude shock, the obviously false narrative being peddled by those whose primary intention is to cause mischief and on that note, he specifically directed that we should inform those who care to listen that neither the trio of Mazi Kanunta Kanu, Carolyn Okoroafor, Madam Nnennaya Anya, nor any other person in the DOS was instrumental to his abduction in Kenya and subsequent extraordinary rendition to Nigeria.

“Onyendu warned those mischievously purveying these fake news to desist forthwith, and accordingly issue a retraction to the effect of this damaging blackmail to the trio of Kanunta Kanu, Nnennaya Anya and Carolyn Okoroafor, and this must be done without further ado. He was very emphatic on discipline and more importantly C and C.

“Onyendu thanked you all, millions of his supporters and followers for your peaceful conduct so far, and implored you all to keep it up and never derail. He also enjoined you, his followers to shun distraction of any kind.

“Onyendu is very much strong in his conviction and have remained unshaken, believing most strongly that he will regain his freedom soon, because he has not committed any offence known to law.

“Our Client – Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is not oblivious of the antics of his detractors, who are desperately working day and night to enthrone confusion and destroy all he has laboured for years to build. To that end, he advised his followers to remain more vigilant now than ever. He emphasized that this is indeed perilous times”.
