The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, on Thursday told the Federal High Court in Abuja that he would defend himself after his team of lawyers withdrew from his trial.

Lead counsel, Kanu Agabi (SAN), announced in court that the legal team was stepping down from the case, explaining that Kanu had decided to take over his own defense.

All other Senior Advocates of Nigeria on the defense team also withdrew from the suit.

Confirming the move, Kanu told the court he would be representing himself for now, though he might change that decision later.

When asked by the trial judge if the court should assign him a new lawyer, Kanu declined.

Speaking in court, he argued that the court had no jurisdiction to continue with his trial.
