The Federal High Court in Abuja has handed down a life sentence to Nnamdi Kanu, the self-proclaimed leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, on terrorism charges.

Justice James Omotosho announced that Kanu would serve life imprisonment on counts one, four, five, and six, instead of receiving the death penalty.

In addition, the court sentenced Kanu to 20 years in prison on Count Three and five years on Count Seven, with no option of paying a fine.

The judge stated that all sentences would run concurrently.

Delivering the judgment, Justice Omotosho said, “I hereby sentence the convict to life imprisonment for counts one, four, five, and six, instead of death sentence.

“With respect to Count Three, he is hereby sentenced to 20 years imprisonment without no option of fine.

“For Count Seven, he is sentenced to five years imprisonment without no option of fine. To extend the mercy, I hereby order that the sentence shall run concurrently.”
