The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority has warned residents of Osun State not to panic-buy or store petrol at home as the Christmas season draws near.

The NMDPRA Coordinator in the state, Kunle Adeyemo, gave the warning on Thursday during a chat with journalists in Osogbo.

Adeyemo assured the public that there is enough petrol to meet demand before, during and after the festive period. He stressed that keeping fuel at home is dangerous and can lead to fires, loss of lives and destruction of property.

He said, “Petroleum products are available in all depots around the country. Marketers should not engage in diversion, under dispensing, hoarding, adulteration or unsafe acts at retail outlets.”

According to him, the authority has increased its monitoring of filling stations to ensure they comply with safety, quality and quantity rules.

He added that any marketer caught hoarding products, adjusting pumps or engaging in adulteration would be punished.
