The National Executive Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress announced the suspension of the ongoing strike on Wednesday night, citing the intervention of the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.

The decision to suspend the strike was made following a meeting that commenced a few minutes past 7 pm and lasted close to an hour.

During this time, various affiliates and state chapters reviewed the outcomes of the meeting between labour leaders and Ribadu.

National Deputy Vice-President of the TUC, Tommy Etim, confirmed the suspension in an interview with our correspondent in Abuja.

He stated, “The NEC of the NLC and the TUC have suspended the strike. We did this based on our trust for the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, who gave us his words.”

Earlier on Wednesday afternoon, labour leaders, accompanied by the Minister of Labour, Simon Lalong, met with Ribadu at the Office of the NSA.

The organised labour had initiated the strike which started on Tuesday to protest against the alleged brutalization of Joe Ajaero and the government’s failure to implement agreements reached on October 2, 2023.

The NSA had announced that those responsible for the brutalization of NLC National President Joe Ajaero had been arrested urging the labour union to end the strike.
