The National Information Technology Development Agency and the Federal Capital Territory Universal Basic Education Board have announced a partnership to drive digital transformation in schools across the Federal Capital Territory.

This collaboration will see 24 students from six FCT schools participate in an intensive two-week training program focused on Artificial Intelligence Coding, and Robotics.

The initiative is part of the third edition of the Reality House competition, a program designed to inspire creativity and foster problem-solving skills among students.

A total of 54 participants, including three students and a teacher from each of the eight selected schools, along with a 12-person support team, will be involved in the program.

The competition will be conducted in a reality TV show format, with the participants engaging in various challenges and debates to showcase their newly acquired digital skills.

The program is scheduled to begin on Saturday, August 17, 2024, and aims to nurture a new generation of tech-savvy problem solvers.

The participating schools include JSS Tudun Fulani, JSS Narai Karu, JSS Karu, JSS Kubwa 1, JSS Abaji, JSS Kekeshi, JSS Dutse Alhaji 2, and JSS Pyakasa.

This initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which emphasizes accelerating diversification through industrialization, digitalization, creative arts, manufacturing, and innovation.

It also supports NITDA’s Strategic Action and Roadmap Plan (SRAP) 2.0, which targets achieving 70% digital literacy by 2027.

NITDA Director-General, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, highlighted the importance of the program, stating, “By equipping these young students with AI, coding, and robotics skills, we are investing in the future of Nigeria.

“This collaboration with FCT UBEB is a significant step towards building a digitally empowered society.”

The training program is expected not only to enhance students’ academic performance but also to instill essential life skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork. Winners of the competition will receive cash prizes and continued mentorship from NITDA and FCT UBEB.
